Magic Tails Review

Magic Tails are character mermaid and shark blankets for boys and girls. They are offered in two designs: Shark and Mermaid. There are two shark colors (blue and green), and four mermaid colors (blue, pink, purple, and green).

The product could be loosely described as a sleeping bag, although it doesn’t have a zipper and isn’t long enough to completely house all sized kids. Although the children on the product website and the television commercial seem older, this item is probably geared toward younger children in the 3 to 6 year old range.  That, of course, isn’t to say that older kids may not also like it, but that would seem to be the largest demographic.

As you can see from photos on the website, bigger kids may not be able to use this as a full-function sleeping bag, as it might not cover them up to their shoulders. Depending on your child’s height and the manner in which they sleep, it might not reach much above the waist.

It’s more likely that Magic Tails will be used during waking hours as a novelty item, to keep warm around the house, or bundle up in the car. In such cases, it should fit the bill to the satisfaction of most kids and parents.

At a price of about $28, Magic Tails is toward the upper-middle end of the price range for this type of product (see below). It also appears to be a new item, based on its domain registration date and limited advertising. What remains to be seen is whether or not initial orders will suffer from notoriously slow shipping that often happens with many new products.

We’ll keep an eye out for any updates which may occur with this product’s name, price, or availability – which sometimes change for new products.

Magic Tails is brought to you by Ontel Products Corp., a popular As Seen on TV company which currently holds a “B” rating with the Better Business Bureau. Ontel has marketed such products as Veggetti, Slap Chop, and Slushy Magic in recent years.

Overall, Magic Tails seems to be a nice blend of cute characters and a winning, proven design.

Last month we reviewed a product called Snuggie Tails which also sports underwater character designs. Both that product and Magic Tails appear to be inspired in some way by Blankie Tails. That brand points out that it is “The original mermaid and shark blankets.” It, too, offers underwater character blankets for kids. It is highly rated and costs about $37.

You can also find numerous mermaid or shark blankets ranging in price from about $18 – $35.
