About Motion Brite

Motion Brite is an easily transportable motion activated LED light strip. When this product was being advertised back around 2017, the official website was getmotionbrite.com, which was first registered in September 2016. The screen capture below shows the official product website in February 2017.

As of this 2022 update, the Motion Brite website is no longer online, although there is still a product listing on Amazon at this link, although it is often listed as out of stock.

Motion Brite Review

As Seen on TV marketers love to produce light-up gadgets for consumers. In just the last few months we’ve seen new products such as Luma Plate, Bulb on a Rope, Mighty Brite Switch, and LockBright. And of course, there are older mainstays still around such as InstaBulb, EverBright, or Underlight.

With Motion Brite, we have a motion-activated light strip that can be placed almost anywhere around the home. This battery operated light uses 10 LED bulbs which create a bright enough light to help you see in dark spaces. Its sensors switch the unit on when movement is detected and back off again after motion ceases. It is also light sensitive and will only work when it is dark.

Note that the original website (shown above) listed 8 LED bulbs, which was upped to 10 at some point.

If you think the description above sounds a lot like Underlight, you aren’t alone in that thought. Indeed, a discussion of Motion Brite would not be complete without comparing and contrasting it to Underlight, which functions very similarly, although there are a few key differences in design.

Motion Brite includes a separate mounting strip which can be adhered to your desired surface, to which Motion Brite is can be attached or detached. This allows you to remove and replace Motion Brite easily. Underlight also uses a sticky back, but it doesn’t have the removable feature. (OxyLED, discussed below, however, does have this feature.)

An advantage Underlight has over Motion Brite is that you can chain multiple lights together, or use an elbow connector for corners. This is not a feature found in Motion Brite. Underlight also features an on/off switch, which is not found in Motion Brite.

The 4 AAA batteries are self-contained within Motion Brite, while they reside in a separate power base with Underlight. This gives a slight advantage to Motion Brite, as you don’t have to worry about hiding the base.

The commercial for Motion Brite shows several examples of uses for the product, although not all of the examples seem very useful. For example, it is unlikely that someone would want (or need) to place one of these in a mailbox. The most likely scenario will probably be for accent lighting or as a utility light. Motion Brite should get the job done in dark areas, such as underneath a sink, in cabinets, or along a dark stairway. Depending on how and where it’s used, Motion Brite should last several months with a fresh set of batteries.

I estimate the angle of motion detection to be about 150 degrees, and the depth to be as much as 20 feet. When I mounted it above my garage, I realized that the headlights from my car prevented Motion Brite from turning on when I pulled into my driveway.

The motion sensor points in the same direction as the light, and there may be instances you’d prefer your motion sensor to point one way and the light to point another (such as accent lighting). Thus, if you have Motion Brite under a cabinet, you may have to wave your hand underneath it if no motion is detected.

For the price and features, Motion Brite is a competent product.

Alternatives

As discussed above, Underlight is probably the most well-known LED light strip in this category. This rechargeable motion sensing LED light by OxyLED is an Amazon best seller with high consumer ratings.
