20 Minute White Smile Review
Teeth whitening is big business, and there are seemingly endless options in this category, including strips, toothpastes, mouthwashes, bleaching, whitening pens, and in-office dental visits. 20 Minute White Smile promises to bring dental technology to your home with a system that uses a special gel and LED light to accelerate the process.
To use 20 Minute White Smile, you first apply a layer of Vitamin E with the included swabs. You’ll then attach the pre-filled gel tray to the LED accelerator light and insert the unit in your mouth. After a 20-minute session, you should see an improvement in the color of your teeth.
The good news is that home LED whitening kits such as 20 Minute White Smile do work pretty well, and consumer reviews tend to be generally positive. Similar treatments in a dentist’s office can cost hundreds or more, so the idea of a $50 whitening treatment is compelling. You may want to keep your expectations realistic, however, as a single session may not provide the dramatic results shown in the advertising. Although they state that you can achieve “up to 8 shades” of whitening, you may only achieve a modest amount of improvement.
One caveat not touched upon in the advertising for 20 Minute White Smile is that this appears to be a one-time use. Note that you received a “pre-filled tray” with no refills mentioned in the commercial or on the website. Thus, if your results are not ideal, you may have to shell out more money for additional treatments. Further, the gel used in these types of products can irritate the gums for a minority of users.
You probably shouldn’t hold high expectations for the whitening pen that is included as a bonus. Although pens like this are heavily marketed, one dentist referred to most of those being advertised online as “a highly-profitable internet scam.” He also noted that “The pens fail miserably as a delivery system because you always need high concentration and prolonged exposure to get a decent result. A paint-on can’t achieve that.”
Overall, 20 Minute White Smile actually works quite well, provided your expectations are realistic. Whether or not it holds any distinct advantage over similar products remains to be seen. The fact that there is only enough gel for one application may not sit well with some consumers.
Alternatives
There are other LED teeth whitening kits to be found in stores and online. The current “Amazon’s Choice” in this category is the “Shine Whitening” kit, which costs $35 and holds a 4.3 rating among hundreds of consumers.
