Today I’m back with another round of kitchen gadgets to see if they live up to their promises, or if they’re destined to gather dust in the drawer. The three contenders in today’s review include: the Ever Toast, the Butter Cutting Case, and the Dreamfarm “Dopener”, pitted against the Kuhn Rikon Master Opener. Let’s jump right into it.
Where to Purchase
Below are links to all of the items featured in this review.
Ever Toast: Keep Your Grilled Cheese Crunchy
- Price: $14.99 for a set of 2
- Claims: Prevents soggy bread, keeps the bottom crunchy, and works for pizza, waffles, and more. Dishwasher and microwave safe.
- Testing: I made two grilled cheese sandwiches and placed one on a regular plate and one on the Ever Toast.
Results:
The Ever Toast delivered exactly as promised. The sandwich on the plate became soggy and wet on the bottom, but the one on the Ever Toast stayed dry and crispy. Even after several minutes, there was no sign of moisture seeping into the bread.
Pros:
- Works as advertised for preventing sogginess.
- Great for grilled cheese lovers or anyone tired of soggy bread.
Cons:
- Not suitable for cutting sandwiches directly on it, as that could scratch the surface.
Verdict: A niche product that works surprisingly well. If you’re serious about your grilled cheese game, this might be worth the buy.
Butter Cutting Case: Perfect Butter Pats Made Easy
- Price: $9.99
- Claims: Cuts and stores butter, creating uniform pats with stainless steel blades.
Testing: I tried slicing two sticks of butter, one straight from the fridge and another softened at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
Results:
The Butter Cutting Case exceeded my expectations. Both refrigerated and softened butter sliced cleanly into neat, uniform pats. The design allows you to store butter directly in the container, keeping it ready to use.
Pros:
- Effortless slicing of butter, regardless of temperature.
- Convenient for storage.
Cons:
- The lid could be sturdier.
Verdict: The Butter Cutting Case is a winner, especially if you frequently use butter in your cooking. It’s a practical gadget I may continue to use.
Dreamfarm Dopener vs. Kuhn Rikon Master Opener
- Price: Both run around $25
- Claims (Dreamfarm): Smooth-edge can opener, jar opener, pull-ring lifter, and ergonomic design for two-hand operation.
- Testing: I compared the two gadgets across a variety of tasks: opening cans, pulling tabs, and tackling jars.
Results:
Both openers performed well with standard cans. The Dreamfarm, however, struggled with smaller cans and jar lids, making it less versatile. The Kuhn Rikon Master Opener, by contrast, handled every task smoothly, including small cans and stubborn jar lids.
Pros (Dreamfarm):
- Two-hand operation is ideal for users with grip or strength issues.
- Smooth-edge cutting works well on most cans.
Cons (Dreamfarm):
- Struggles with small cans and jars.
- Didn’t perform as well as the Kuhn Rikon.
Verdict: While the Dreamfarm Dopener has its merits, the Kuhn Rikon Master Opener remains the better overall choice for versatility and ease of use.
Final Thoughts
Here’s how these products ranked:
- Butter Cutting Case: A practical gadget that’s easy to use and delivers great results. I’ll likely use this regularly.
- Ever Toast: A niche product that works exactly as promised—perfect for grilled cheese enthusiasts.
- Dreamfarm Dopener: A good option for specific needs but falls short compared to the Kuhn Rikon Master Opener.
If you’ve tried any of these products, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Until next time, happy cooking!

Awesome video. May have to get that Master Opener! Thanks, James. You rock!
Thank you, and yes that Master Opener has grown on me over the years!
Are there no links to the products? I do not see any.
The very top of the article includes a section entitled “Where to Purchase” and links are below that headline.
Where did you find the long skinny butter sticks here in the LV area? I can only find the western US short fat sticks since I’ve lived here. Hate them too because they’re harder to measure.
I bought it at either Vons or Smith’s, but I don’t recall which one! I’m not a fan of those short fan ones!
