For today’s review, I’m diving into four unique viewer requests that include two quirky gadgets and two unconventional food products. From turning objects into speakers to pickle-flavored frozen treats, here’s how they fared.
Where to Purchase
Below are links where you can purchase the items covered in this review.
Humbird Bone Conduction Speaker
Price: $41.99 (two-pack)
Verdict: Surprisingly Impressive
This Bluetooth speaker supposedly uses bone conduction technology to transform everyday objects into audio surfaces. Out of the box, it comes with accessories like sticky pads, suction cups, and cables, giving plenty of options for setup. Pairing the two speakers was a bit of a chore due to unclear instructions, but persistence paid off. I found that pairing them together first, then pairing one of them to my phone was the only way I could get two speakers to work in tandem.
Testing it on different surfaces showed how much the sound varies based on what it’s placed on. For example:
- Table: Brought out solid bass.
- Wall: Delivered decent mid-range tones.
- Toaster: Offered an interesting acoustic vibe.
- Against my head: A bass-heavy, internal experience!
While it’s fun and occasionally practical, the novelty factor stands out more than its utility. It’s great as a conversation piece, but the sound quality and volume are inconsistent.
Would I recommend it? Yes, if you like quirky gadgets or need a unique audio solution.
DishWinkle Dishwasher Indicator
Price: $14.99
Verdict: Simple but Effective
The DishWinkle offers an alternative to those forgettable “dirty/clean” dishwasher magnets. This plastic gadget clips onto your dishwasher and fills with water during the cycle, letting you know the dishes are clean. Once emptied, it signals they’re dirty again.
The Pros:
- Foolproof design.
- No flipping magnets.
- Works as advertised.
The Cons:
- It’s $15 for what feels like 5 cents of plastic.
- Could spill water if mishandled.
Though not a necessity, it’s a handy tool for those prone to forgetting their dishwasher’s status.
Would I recommend it? If you’re constantly unsure about your dishwasher’s state, this could be worth a try.
Oscar Mayer Bacon Cheddar Popcorn
Price: $24.99 (three-pack)
Verdict: Tastes More Like Ham
This popcorn promised a “bacon and cheddar flavor explosion,” but the reality was a little different. Visually, it looks like your standard cheddar popcorn, and the flavor… well, it leaned heavily toward ham.
First Impressions:
- No smoky bacon aroma—just cheese.
- The taste is more “ham and cheese” than “bacon and cheddar.”
While the popcorn itself was fluffy and enjoyable, the flavors didn’t blend well. The bacon (ham?) dominated the cheddar, leaving an odd combination on the palate. That said, the more I ate it, the more I enjoyed it.
Would I recommend it? For $25, it’s a one-time novelty purchase at best.
Bob’s Pickle Pops
Price: $8.99 (six-pack)
Verdict: For Pickle Lovers Only
These popsicles are made from dill pickle juice and marketed as pre-workout snacks that help with muscle cramps. They can be eaten frozen or unfrozen.
Testing Both Versions:
- Unfrozen: Straight-up salty pickle juice in a pouch.
- Frozen: Somehow even saltier and more intense.
With 500mg of sodium per pop, these aren’t for the faint of heart – or taste buds. If you love pickles, you’ll probably enjoy them, and they could double as cocktail mixers or even pickle ice cubes.
Would I recommend it? Only if you’re a pickle enthusiast or need something for muscle cramps.
Final Thoughts
Testing these strange viewer requests was a lot of fun! While the food items were more of a one-time experience, the gadgets showed potential for occasional use.
- Humbird Speaker: Great as a novelty.
- DishWinkle: Simple and practical.
- Oscar Mayer Popcorn: Weirdly tasty, but pricey.
- Bob’s Pickle Pops: A niche treat for hardcore pickle fans.
