Boom Touch Review

Boom Touch is a speaker which allows you to amplify sound or music from your portable device. It requires no wires or even Bluetooth, instead relying on “touch” technology. You simply place your device on the flat surface, and the sound is amplified through the speaker.

There are obvious “pros” to Boom Touch. Not having to fiddle with Bluetooth is a major plus, especially if you’ve found that to be problematic. The fact that it is compatible with any device that has a speaker makes it quite versatile (although some iPods and other players without speakers won’t work). The sound quality is pretty good, depending on your configuration, and it is small enough to take with you.

There are also a few “cons” to consider. Because you have to place your device on the flat surface, you can’t really use it to do anything but play music. Those who like to multitask may not like this. Also, because it’s only one speaker, you also can’t expect to hear sound separated into stereo. I even found that, depending on how my phone was placed on the unit, I could only hear one side of the stereo output. Thus very old recordings (such as The Doors and The Beatles) where entire instruments were often panned to one side or the other, I would sometimes not hear those instruments at all. This was not a problem when the aux cable was used.

boom touch speaker back inputs

I found that the best configuration is using an aux cable (which isn’t included). That delivers the most crisp sound, and allows you to use your device while it is in use. Of course, that also removes the novelty “touch” feature, but it could be worth the trade-off. As you can see in the video below, the “touch” feature seems to be better without a phone case – although you can use it with a case – but the aux input is an even better choice.

Although the three AA batteries used to power Boom Touch are said to last about 10 hours, I found that they lasted far longer than that. After about a full day of use, Boom Touch continued to perform on a single set of batteries. How loud you play Boom Touch will probably affect battery life.

For what it is, Boom Touch is a pretty nifty gadget. The $8 in “P&H” is a bit steep, and now that it’s available in stores, you may want to look for it locally to avoid shipping costs and delays.

Although it may be the first time you’ve seen such a device, Boom Touch is not a new idea. You can find several so-called “touch speakers” which range in price from about $13-$40. One of the highest-rated alternatives is the OHHAI Wireless Touch Speaker, which more expensive, but more highly rated.

We spotted this item at a local “As Seen on TV” store here in Las Vegas last weekend. You may be able to call and cancel your order, then pick it up locally if any vendors nearby carry it for a decent price.

You cannot get in contact with these jerks, except to order. If I had not checked the status of my order (that they allow) I would have never known that a) the product was “Temporarily out of stock” and b) they were “Awaiting Credit Card Approval”. This about 2 weeks since I’ve ordered the speakers. You think they would send you an email, informing you of these things, but noooo… Will be my one and only purchase – if I ever get the speakers, which were Christmas presents for some friends.

When something is brand new it takes longer to process orders, they have to have so many orders to make it worth production…just common sense!

Common sense is not trying to persuade people like a tv salesman to buy something just because you like it. People have a choice and if that is not to buy it, then so be it. Quit putting people down because they don’t like it.

Not a scam…perhaps the time was that long because it had just come out? If that is the case, most new items have to have a certain amount of orders to manufacture the item, which is sensible you don’t want to have your item made and not have the money coming in to pay for it…this is just wise marketing…I ordered the spin broom when it first hit the air, and the wait was over 6 weeks, they don’t tell you that they have to wait for so and so amount of time, they instead say it’s not in stock,… Read more »

Not sure what other ppl are talking about, I got mine just fine and it does exactly what it says it does…I’ve had mine for about a month, and it works great…im grateful I didn’t read all the negativity posted here, because it have missed out on a great exterior speaker, so those calling it a scam is not true…yes it is billed out prior to shipping, that’s how most online things work…shipping did take a short time, perhaps longer than some have guessed but to me it got here in decent time…it is very much worth what you pay… Read more »

Mono is not today. How long has it been since mono started, and how long has stereo been around. Does not mean mono should overwrite stereo, when there is no more mono systems at all. Just because they do not want to go to modern day products, that is their fault. Not worth $20 to me, especially when there are bluetooth at same price with stereo. Plus, bluetooth is not as hard as they advertise. Just because people do not want to do it, does not mean it is hard like they show on commercial. It is the clueless that… Read more »

It is not two speakers to make stereo. How is MONO better and new technology? Just because you put a smartphone on it and it detects the music, that is not much to get excited about especially when you just hear mono sound. Mono was how many years ago? So until they make it two speakers and stereo, then I would not even consider this a special product or cool.

Awesome Bryner

Just read all comments and they are making a deal out of a mono speaker. I mean about $20. I can see why it is worth $20. Actually, these should be cheaper for being Mono. If it has no stereo sound, then I am not bothering. Mono in this modern time is just not worth it. WTF?

Another problem I’ve noticed is that if you play a track that has wide stereo separation – like The Doors’ first album where the drums or the keyboard solo are panned to one side – you may not hear half the instruments! I played “Light My Fire,” and the keyboard solo was practically not there. With the aux cable, that’s not a problem.

You know why they advertise so much and other companies? It is because they are not getting enough customers or the product is just not that good. The more I see the commercial, just makes it more not worth the price or deal. Goes with anything. Intel used to have the blue guys commercials competing with AMD, and now they never advertise because they beat the competition. BoomTouch is never going to get as good as Intel.

It wasn’t made to do so…so why did you have to be so unkind? It is what it says it is, a volume booster for your phone…and it does really make it louder!!!!

Just because you don’t like the truth, does not mean it isn’t. Pus, mono is not today’s kind of product and theirs is mono, not stereo. I will take a bluetooth stereo speakers over this anyday.

It does what it says it does…perfectly pleased I didn’t look at all the nasty comments and not try it, very pleased with the product, if it was a stereo booster it would cost a lot more too…this just boosts your own phones volume, and it does it well!

Lol, no i dont work for them…but it is just a volume enhancer, it does lack a few things, but I think it does pretty good for what its made for…however I understand you are frustrated, so I’m not going to take your anger persinal…and I dont believe I told anybody off, but if you feel you have an issue with them I’m not the one you need to be frustrated with…it works great for what it was designed for and that’s why I have one for in our boat and one for at home for boosting my devices…the design… Read more »

True and you’d pay a whole lot more for a Bluetooth, this is priced proper, but those who want more column on their phone and can’t fork out what it costs for Bluetooth they would be pleased with this for the added volume!

You can get close to the same in bluetooth starting in the $10 range at the dollar stores. The Boom Touch is overpriced for what it does. Expect to see a lot of these in the return bin at Target after xmas this year.

Got one for X-mas (Thumbs up) and I like it! If your phone only has one speaker and the music player has an equalizer to turn up the lows and down the mids the sound is excellent. I really don’t care it’s ‘only’ mono because it’s great fun. Very nice gadget 🙂
