Copper Chef Knives Review

As I sit here preparing to write my initial thoughts about Copper Chef Knives, the first thing that comes to mind is how many more products can fit on the copper bandwagon?

Have you seen the copper bandwagon yet? It’s full of products that have advertised on television in recent years such as Tommie Copper, Copper Chef, Copper Fit, Red Copper Pan, Copper1, Brooklyn Brownie Copper, Copper Top Lights, Red Copper Mug, Copper Crisper, Red Copper Roller Blade, Yoshi Copper Grill Mat, Copper Wear… and the list goes on.

Indeed, the copper bandwagon is alive and well as products ranging from knives to socks have all jumped aboard. I’ve even noticed some older As Seen on TV products returning with new “copper” versions just to get a piece of the pie. Copper Chef is one of the more prominent brands to cash in on the copper craze, and actually has amassed a pretty good reputation along the way.

So now we have Copper Chef Knives. I’ll tell you upfront that no one, including me, who has written about these knives have seen them yet. If you’re looking for a hands-on review, you won’t find one as of this writing.

Why write a review sight-unseen? Well, it’s a preliminary review, with initial observations based on my experience in the industry, which I will update when I obtain an actual sample. It also provides a place for objective input and discussion on the product as it becomes more widely available.

With this set of knives, we have a three piece collection that includes a chef’s knife, serrated knife, and fillet knife. They are all made from Cerami-Tech, a nonstick material also used in other Copper Chef cookware. The “cerami” part of that name would imply that these are probably ceramic knives.

If they are ceramic knives, that would explain the claims of being lightweight and staying “forever” sharp. While ceramic knives do have a place in some kitchens, they probably aren’t ideal as all-purpose knives. They are great for items like fruits and vegetables, but prone to chipping when it comes to bone, seeds, or pits. Dropping a ceramic blade can ruin the knife completely. You can read more about ceramic knives here.

Again, we aren’t specifically told that these are ceramic knives, but the claims certainly imply this. If they are actually steel blades, then I highly doubt the proposition that they would never need sharpening. I am attempting to confirm the actual material from which Copper Chef Knives are made.

It seems unfathomable that a set of three knives for $22 can compete with a well-crafted chef’s knife that can run hundreds of dollars. I have no doubt that they will work well at first – as most new knives do, even cheap ones. How will they hold up over time? That is a question that has yet to be answered as this product is far too new to have been put through any rigorous consumer tests.

The January 2017 registration date of the product website tells me that this is a very new As Seen on TV item that only began marketing in the past few weeks. That is the reason I don’t believe any consumers or reviewers have actually seen the product as of this writing.

Copper Chef products have been met with mostly positive consumer reviews, so these knives will likely be pretty good quality for the price. Can they live up to the advertising? Most As Seen on TV knives haven’t. Perhaps Copper Chef Knives will be the exception to that rule.

As stated earlier, this is preliminary information that I will update when I obtain a sample to try out first-hand.

Alternatives

As you can see, ceramic knife sets can range greatly in price, from $15 to $70 or more. If you want a highly-rated chef’s knife that doesn’t cost a fortune, you may want to take a look at the Victorinox chef’s knife that sells for a modest $45, but holds an astonishing 4.8 star rating among about 5,000 reviews.
