Sometimes you find a product that promises to do it all, and today, I’m diving into one such gadget: the Dezin Multi-Function Electric Hot Pot. It’s marketed as a compact, portable, and non-stick cooker that could potentially replace your stove for smaller meals. I grabbed this on a Black Friday deal for $30, and while the price hasn’t budged since, the real question is: does it deliver? Let’s find out in today’s review.
Where to Purchase
You can find the Dezin Pot on Amazon for around $35-$38.
First Impressions: What’s in the Box?
The package comes with a glass lid, a tiny spatula, an egg-steaming gadget, and a power cord. The pot itself has two power settings: 250W (low) and 600W (high), both controlled by a simple dial. The materials felt lightweight but functional enough. The non-stick interior looked promising, although the lack of a steaming basket (available with some models) was a disappointment.
Setup and Heating Test
Right out of the box, I ran a heating test. On the low setting, the pot quickly reached 450°F, far hotter than expected for a “low” heat. On high, it went up to 540°F before the thermostat clicked off. There was a slightly uneven heat distribution evident, with a “C-shaped” hot zone dominating one side of the pot.
The good news? The bottom of the pot stayed cool to the touch, making it safe for tabletops, even without a trivet.
Putting It to the Test: Cooking Experiences
Eggs: A Total Flop
Eggs are my go-to for testing non-stick cookware. On low heat, I cracked an egg directly into the pot with no oil or butter. The results? A disaster. The egg burned in some spots while remaining undercooked in others, thanks to the uneven heat. Worse still, 450°F is simply too hot for delicate foods like eggs. This test was a definitive failure.
Hamburgers: Success at High Heat
Switching gears, I cooked a hamburger on the high setting, and the results were much better. The patty seared evenly, cooked through in about eight minutes, and tasted great. The non-stick surface performed admirably, and cleanup was a breeze.
Plant-Based Burgers: A Surprisingly Good Match
Next, I tried a plant-based burger, which also requires high heat. It seared beautifully, and the results were just as good as with a regular burger. This reinforced my conclusion that this pot excels at high-temperature cooking.
Grilled Cheese: Gooey Perfection
For a medium-difficulty test, I made a grilled cheese sandwich. The low setting provided just enough heat to toast the bread evenly (despite the uneven heating pattern noted earlier). The sandwich came out golden and melty, proving that this pot can handle foods requiring medium-high heat.
Can It Handle Vegetables and Steak?
Veggies: Limited by Size
Stir-frying vegetables on high heat worked reasonably well, though the pot’s small size was limiting. It’s enough for one or two servings, but forget about meal-prepping large quantities.
Steak Outdoors: A “Backyard Bites” Experiment
The manufacturer claims this pot is great for camping or picnics, assuming you have a power source. Using my portable Rockpals 500W power station, I cooked a steak on the low setting (250W). The result? A decent sear and medium-done interior, though the uneven heat was evident in spots. For outdoor use, this pot holds up surprisingly well.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Heats quickly, even on the low setting.
- Non-stick surface performs well and cleans up easily.
- Outer surface remains cool, making it safe for small spaces.
- Perfect for high-heat cooking like grilling burgers or searing steaks.
Cons:
- “Low” setting is far too hot for delicate foods like eggs.
- No medium setting, limiting versatility.
- Uneven heating can affect results for certain dishes.
- Small capacity makes it impractical for larger meals.
Final Thoughts: Should You Buy It?
In my tests, I found the Dezin Multi-Function Electric Hot Pot to be a mixed bag. It shines when cooking high-heat foods like burgers, grilled cheese, or stir-fries. However, its overly hot “low” setting and uneven heating limit its utility for more delicate recipes. However…
I gave this to an individual who rents a room and has limited kitchen access, and they told me it has been a huge addition to their living space. They can heat up things like soup or ramen with ease. Seeing how useful it is been in that scenario makes most of the flaws seem minor in comparison. For that reason, I placed this on my Best of 2024 list.
The Dezin pot is ideal if you’re looking for a portable, compact cooker for simple meals or outdoor adventures. While it won’t replace a stove, it can come in quite handy if you don’t have one.
