In today’s review, I put four gadgets to the test to see if they’re actually useful or just another gimmick. This lineup includes the TableCoaster, Therapy Mittens, a Wilton Brownie Bite Mold, and a TV Screen Amplifier (which I believe they meant to call a “magnifier,” but that’s what was on the packaging). Let’s see how the fared in today’s review!
Where to Purchase
Below are links where you can buy these gadgets for yourself.
TableCoaster – The Non-Tip Coaster
The TableCoaster is designed to prevent spills by securing your drink to a surface. It uses a tacky base to grip tables, glass, and other smooth surfaces.
- Setup & First Impressions: I struggled a bit with removing the protective film, but once I got it off, the coaster stuck to my glass table like glue – almost too well. The design allows different cup sizes to fit, but larger mugs over 3.5 inches are a no-go.
- Performance: It held up well during my tests, but removing it the first time was a serious challenge. You’re supposed to “tilt” it off, but that was easier said than done. It took some brute force to remove it the first time, which made me wonder how safe it would be on unfinished or painted surfaces (spoiler: it’s not).
- Durability & Reusability: After multiple uses, it seemed to lose some of its initial grip but still held drinks firmly. I even tested it outside on a dirty table, which eventually made the adhesive stop working. Fortunately, wiping it with a damp cloth restored its grip.
Final Thoughts
✔️ Works well on the right surfaces
✔️ Effectively secures drinks
❌ Extremely difficult to remove at first
❌ Not safe for unfinished wood or painted surfaces
Verdict: A solid product if you need spill protection, but be very careful where you place it!
Therapy Mittens – Heated Relief for Cold Hands
I bought these Therapy Mittens for personal use since I have chronically cold hands, and I was curious to see if they’d live up to the hype.
- First Impressions: These mittens are much heavier than I expected, almost like wearing weighted boxing gloves. They contain flaxseed, clay beads, and lavender, which are supposed to provide moist heat therapy when microwaved.
- Heating Performance: After 90 seconds in the microwave, they came out warm, with an unusual moist sensation inside. It was pleasant but a bit surprising. The heat distribution was mostly centered on the hands, with less warmth on the wrists and fingertips – which, unfortunately, is where I needed it most.
- Comfort & Usability: They felt great, but using them while watching TV was tricky since they completely limit hand mobility (forget using the remote). However, they retain heat for nearly 50 minutes, which is much longer than I expected (or even suggested).
Final Thoughts
✔️ Provides deep, long-lasting warmth
✔️ Comfortable and soothing for cold hands
❌ Doesn’t heat wrists or fingertips well
❌ You can’t use your hands while wearing them
Verdict: If you have cold hands or arthritis, they work well – just don’t expect to multitask while using them.
Wilton Brownie Bite Mold – Perfect Mini Brownies?
This silicone brownie bite mold is supposed to create 24 perfectly shaped mini brownies with easy removal and even cooking. Sounds simple, right?
- Setup & Baking: The mold had no instructions or fill lines, so I had to rely on user reviews. I filled each cavity about halfway and baked at 325°F for about 20 minutes.
- Results: The brownies baked evenly (for the most part), though the ones in the center were slightly less cooked than those on the edges.
- Ease of Removal: This is where the mold shined. The brownies popped out with no sticking (although I did generously spray it with Pam beforehand)! I also tested dishwasher cleaning, and it came out spotless.
Final Thoughts
✔️ Bakes mini brownies evenly (mostly)
✔️ Easy to remove and clean
✔️ Dishwasher safe
❌ No instructions or clear fill lines
Verdict: If you want perfect mini brownies, this mold delivers. Just be mindful of slight cooking variations between the center and edges.
TV Screen Amplifier – A Nostalgic Gimmick?
This retro-style screen amplifier is designed to magnify your phone screen to create a “mini TV experience.” I’ve reviewed similar products before, so I was curious to see if this one was an improvement.
- Assembly and Build Quality: Let’s be honest, this thing feels cheap. It’s a simple plastic frame with a magnifying lens, and the assembly instructions weren’t great. Once set up, the phone slides into a slot behind the screen.
- Image Quality: Surprisingly, the magnification worked better than expected. The screen was bigger and clear, but there was some distortion around the edges and a circular glare pattern that could be distracting.
- Usability Issues:
- You can’t interact with your phone while it’s in the device.
- The screen distorts when moving, making it best for stationary viewing.
- The structure is flimsy and fell apart at one point.
Final Thoughts
✔️ Does increase screen size
✔️ Better image quality than expected
❌ Distorts edges and reflects light
❌ Flimsy and cheap materials
❌ Prevents phone interaction (no touchscreen access)
Verdict: It works, but only in very specific situations. If you want a slightly bigger screen and don’t mind the limitations, it might be useful. Otherwise, just use a tablet.
Final Verdict: What’s Worth Buying?
- Best Overall: Brownie Bite Mold – Works as advertised, easy to clean, and perfect for parties.
- Most Useful for Me: Therapy Mittens – If you have cold hands, they’re a must-have.
- Biggest Surprise: TableCoaster – It really works but can be too strong!
- Most Gimmicky: TV Screen Amplifier – Fun but not practical for everyone.
