Garlic Master Review
As Seen on TV kitchen products have been a mainstay of late-night and weekend television for years. Kitchen products within this category have been especially coveted by consumers who want the latest gadgets that promise to make cooking easier.
Enter Garlic Master.
With this device we have a garlic press that is said to deliver “81 perfect cubes” with a simple twist of the knob. It works when you insert peeled cloves of garlic into the chamber, then press down and twist. The 81 cubes are created by a 9×9 grid formed by cutting blades, similar in appearance and function to a standard pepper mill.
Upon first glance, it would appear that Garlic Master works like a pepper mill, but I found it’s a bit different. When you first put the garlic in the chamber and twist, nothing will come out. The handle screws downward, so it takes a while before it presses the garlic enough to push it through the blades. In one of my tests, I counted 32 twists before a single clove was completely minced.
The storage case is a nice touch, as it allows you to store any unused garlic for later use, without worrying about odors overtaking your fridge. That, however, is only available with the online offer, and not included in the version sold in stores.
Advertising for Garlic Master also promises no odors on your hands, and this is made possible in part by an included garlic peeler, in which you place a clove of garlic and roll it along the counter to separate the peel. This silicone peeler can also be used to pick up and place garlic in the Garlic Master, so you don’t ever have to get odors on your hands. As you can see in my review below, it worked about as advertised. The first time I tried it (not on camera), it didn’t work on a very dry clove of garlic.
The instructions state that it’s best to use only one clove at a time, and this makes the process unusually long if you have a lot of garlic to cut. I would probably go with an old school garlic press, which may not create perfect cubes, but is far faster.
It took me a while to figure out how to best clean the grate, which tends to get clogged. I used a sink brush, which poked those little squares through the grate pretty easily. No other methods, such as using a sponge, rinsing it with water, or tapping it on the side of the sink worked.
I like the idea behind Garlic Master, but it’s too slow to make it superior to other options.
Alternatives
There are numerous garlic dicers on the market, ranging around $10 to $20. This GarlicZoom chopper by Chef’n runs about $13 and holds high consumer ratings. This garlic press is a $10 option that allows for fresh garlic with a twist of the knob.

Do not order this product unless you wish to pay considerably more for the items shown on TV. Here’s my experience when I went to order 2 First: They attempt to upgrade you to the “deluxe” model for $9.99 each, the description of the “deluxe” model matches the model shown on TV. Well, what does the basic model look like, the one that is never shown? If you decline the initial upgrade offer a new offer appears for the upgrade at $5.00ea. I choose this option, however on their invoice they still charged me $9.99 each and not the $5… Read more »
