Hover Cover Review

When I first saw the advertising for Hover Cover, I thought to myself that this seems to be a solution to a problem that doesn’t really exist and wondered if people really need to store a splatter guard in the microwave. After researching the idea a bit more, I started to realize that this could in fact be a product that is coveted by a segment of the population – with some caveats.

The design is pretty simple in that you have a plastic dome with four plastic magnets. Ideally, Hover Cover will be stored inside the microwave, held to the roof by the magnets. When you place food in the oven, you simply pull the Hover Cover down on top of the food, and then stick it back to the top when you’re done.

Up to that point, it sounds almost like a no-brainer to have a splatter guard on hand at all times. My concern, however, is that it will probably need to be cleaned after every use. This could make me think twice about using it over a paper towel for some types of foods, because I’m not sure everyone in my household would be diligent enough to clean it after every use. I can imagine myself opening the microwave to see a dirty Hover Cover lingering over my food.

Plus, if it’s too inconvenient to reach for a splatter guard in a drawer, wouldn’t it be just as inconvenient to have to wash this and put it back in the microwave each time? I’m just not sure there is much of a time savings.

I have a couple of microwave splatter guards, although they aren’t stored in the microwave, but I still don’t use them except for with certain types of foods. That probably wouldn’t make me a good candidate to purchase Hover Cover. I have friends who use microwave covers for virtually everything, and I think at least some of them would probably love this item.

If you use microwave splatter guards often, and the advertising looks compelling, this could be an ideal fit for you. I think the plastic magnets and steam vents are nice touches to an otherwise basic product.

I wish someone who have purchased this item to make a comment on how it works and if it’s worth the money. I have a glass microwave cover and I use it everytime except for an item too tall for the cover. Food heats up quicker because the heat of the food stays confined. And it keeps food from splattering all over the interior. I don’t mind cleaning it when needed, easier than cleaning all the walls of the microwave. Hover Cover would be idea for my situation. I always have to put my cover on the counter in order… Read more »

Does NOT adhere to the microwave. Useless. No better than other covers. I bought it only because I liked the storing in microwave aspect of it. Waste of time. Don’t bother

That’s a bummer and the only reason I would buy it.

It’s the only reason I bought it. It will stick to anything ACCEPT the roof of the microwave. I checked the magnets by sticking to the side of the microwave, to my water cooler and even to the lid of my washing machnine, which it did to all, but not the inside of my microwave. (Which is only a few months old). The supplier I bought it off offered me a half refund, which I took because the postage cost to send them back (I bought 2) wasn’t worth it. So I sit it on the caraselle and take it… Read more »

You can buy this straight for China for $4.99 on Ebay with free shipping. When I read the review below, and saw that the magnets don’t stick to some people’s microwaves, I went and looked at the top of my microwave. Mine has plastic right where the magnets would go, so this wouldn’t work. Additionally, mine has some metal that protrudes downwards that would now allow the Hover Cover to fit against the top of the microwave.

Rose,
Did you ever pursue legal action with regard to your Microwave damage? I recently purchased this cover and watched and heard my microwave fry.

I just invented my own solution similar to this using a piece of Velcro glued to the roof of my microwave and the other side of the Velcro glued to the top of the splatter cover. I keep my splatter cover in the microwave. When I don’t need to use it, I just push it up to the microwave roof and the two pieces of Velcro keep it out of the way until I’m done cooking. I use this mostly when I need to reheat my coffee or anything else that doesn’t splatter. No damage to microwave or splatter cover.… Read more »

I got one during the holidays. Put it in the microwave, used it a few times……..then my microwave started shorting out!!!!! That’s the only difference! I’ve had the microwave for about 2 years!!! In my opinion, this $14.00 piece of junk cost me $100.00 for a new microwave!!! I wouldn’t recommend it.
