Today I offer my review of the Kuhn Ricon Auto Safety Master Opener, a versatile kitchen gadget that is regularly advertised on QVC. With its five functions and sturdy construction, this product promises to simplify various opening tasks in the kitchen. Does it really work? Let’s find out in today’s review.
Where to Purchase
I picked up my model on Amazon for $23. I’ve seen numerous knockoffs online, but reviews for those are mixed so I’d suggest sticking with the brand name.
Kuhn Ricon Auto Safety Master Opener Review
The Kuhn Ricon Auto Safety Master Opener has been a staple on QVC, earning a spot on their advertising lineup seemingly every month. Priced at $23 on Amazon, this gadget boasts five functions: a bottle opener, safety can opener, twist-top bottle opener, pull-ring can opener, and a jar lid opener. Its robust build quality gives it a substantial feel in the hand, making it user-friendly for everyday tasks.
Bottle Opener Test
First up, I put the bottle opener to the test by opening three bottles. The results were satisfactory, as the opener performed reliably and exhibited the expected functionality. The product’s weight and bulkiness contribute to its ease of use, making it a convenient tool for opening bottles.
If you are in the market for a dedicated bottle opener that has speed in mind, you may want to take a look at the Pop-the-Top opener, which I’ve used for years. You can also see it in action in this short video of mine.
Screw Top Opener Test
Next, I evaluated the screw top opener’s effectiveness on different-sized soda bottles. Simply placing the opener over the bottle cap and applying slight pressure while twisting effortlessly opened all three bottles. It’s worth noting that this tool may not work on water bottles with thinner caps or bottles with larger caps, such as those found on Gatorade bottles.
Smooth-Edge Can Opener Test
The highlight of the Kuhn Ricon Auto Safety Master Opener is its smooth-edge can opener, which includes a “lid lifter” for hygienic removal. This lifter is essentially a small pair of pliers than can be used to pick up the can after opening. To use this can opener, you place it face-down on a can and turn the handle. Once you’ve made one rotation around the can, you simply turn it the opposite direction to release the tool from the can, and then lift the lid away with the lifting tool. Testing it on various-sized cans, including a dented one, revealed consistent and effortless performance. The opener effortlessly glided along the can’s rim, leaving behind smooth edges. I should note that the instructions state to avoid turning the opener beyond 360 degrees or it could result in jagged edges.
Pull Ring Can Opener Test
One of the most impressive features of this gadget is its pull ring can opener. With a simple design consisting of hard curved plastic, it proved highly effective in opening cans with pull rings. To use, you simply place the “hook” under the pull ring and then pull back. I successfully tested it on cans of different sizes, and the opener effortlessly lifted the ring, granting quick access to the contents.
Screw-On Lid Jar Opener Test
For my final test, I evaluated the screw-on lid jar opener’s functionality. To use this opener, you simply hook it onto the jar lid and pull upward to release the pressure. While it required some force, it still offered greater convenience compared to alternative methods. It’s worth noting that the tool may not work with jars that feature thicker lids.
Conclusion
I believe that the Kuhn Ricon Auto Safety Master Opener demonstrated versatility and durability. Among its features, the pull ring can opener stood out as the most impressive, while the screw-on lid jar opener was the least impressive. Despite its $23 price tag, opting for this model over cheaper knockoffs is advisable due to its consistently high ratings and positive user reviews on Amazon.
In the end, the Kuhn Ricon Auto Safety Master Opener is a reliable and multifunctional kitchen gadget that delivers on its promises. Whether you’re opening bottles, cans, or jars, I believe this tool will be a useful addition to most kitchens.
Thank you for a real-world view of a gadget hawked on home shopping networks. There are so many gadgets that “look” better than they are. (I’m remembering an all-in-one measuring cube you reviewed after I’d seen it on HSN. While not completely useless, not the “miracle” item it was touted to be._ If I didn’t have a can opener this Kuhn Ricon Auto Safety Master Opener would be exactly what I’d get. The one I have has all the same functioning pieces, but is a “pliers”-type rather than a “wrench”- or “ratchet”-type. I do have to say that one advantage… Read more »
