Reheatza Review

Reheating leftover pizza has proven problematic for pizza lovers for decades. Now we have Reheatza, a special microwave pan that is said to leave soggy pizza leftovers in the past.

Reheatza was first launched on Kickstarter a couple years ago, and while it was not a successful campaign there, enough interest in the product was earned to continue its development. Now, after about two years of waiting, Reheatza is being made available to the masses, pitched by As Seen on TV veteran Marc Gill.

The idea is quite simple: A special pan that is safe to use in the microwave crisps and grills, without the soggy results you usually find when reheating pizza. Although it can be used for a variety of foods such as toast, eggs, or bacon, its marriage with leftover pizza seems to be its trademark use.

I have found that putting pizza in the oven the next day for about 10-12 minutes does a fantastic job of producing crispy leftovers. I’ve also found that using it in the Copper Crisper (review) is an excellent choice over a baking sheet for leftover pizza. Thus, in my case, Reheatza solves a problem that I don’t have. For those without access to an oven, it could be a great find.

As you can see in the video below, I compared the Reheatza to the Range Mate Pro head to head with a number of items. Because pizza is probably its biggest selling point, I compared the Reheatza to four other methods: Range Mate Pro, Power AirFryer Oven, Gotham Steel Crisper Tray, and old-fashioned microwaving. The Reheatza took about 3.5 minutes, while the Range Mate took only three, but turned out much crispier. The Power AirFryer Oven took only 5 minutes but didn’t require preheating.

Keep in mind that in most cases, you have to preheat the Reheatza for about two minutes, which should be factored into your cook time.

When I tried a grilled cheese sandwich in the Reheatza vs the Range Mate Pro, I found that the Reheatza did not brown the grilled cheese like it does with the Range Mate. Similarly, two different type of french fries came out crispier in the Range Mate Pro than they did with the Reheatza. Warmed-up quesadilla, however, turned out crispy and well-cooked with the Reheatza.

My final test was chicken breast in both the Reheatza and the Range Mate Pro. After 2 minutes of preheating and 7.5 minutes of cooking (4 minutes one side, 3.5 minutes on the other), the chicken was properly cooked, although the outside was browned with the Range Mate Pro but not the Reheatza.

Why does the Range Mate Pro outperform the Reheatza in so many of my tests? I can only surmise that the Range Mate’s surface either gets hotter or that it is more efficient. The Reheatza does have a few distinct advantages, however. First is the price. At $40 (or $32 at Bed Bath & Beyond with a 20% coupon), it is half the price of the Range Mate Pro, which cost me $80. Moreover, Reheatza is larger, and can fit two medium size slices of pizza, while the Range Mate’s small size can only accommodate one slice. The final advantage of Reheatza is availability. You can walk into a Bed Bath and Beyond and pick one up, while the Range Mate Pro (as far as I’m aware) is only available online.

I don’t find Reheatza’s advangates to be a compelling reason to choose it over Range Mate Pro’s superior performance, but your mileage my vary.

Alternatives

It may come as a surprise to find how many microwave pizza crispers and re-heaters there are on the market. As noted above, Reheatza actually shares some of the same design features with Range Mate Pro, which is a surprisingly effective microwave grill. That item is more expensive than Reheatza, but offers superior performance.

Have you been able to get one of these yet? it’s an interesting concept and claims to save even day old French fries. Thanks!

For some reading the lid has reacted to my microwave and set off sparks. Can only use the base. Glad I didn’t spend a lot on it.
