As the heat of summer bears down, I find myself in search of the perfect frozen treat to combat the soaring temperatures. In my quest, I decided to take a look at a popular Amazon shaved ice maker. With an impressive 4.4-star rating among over 15,000 reviews and a price tag of $50, this gadget quickly captured my attention.

Where to Purchase

Here is the listing where I purchased mine for about $50.

The flavors I tested for this video were Blue Raspberry and Pineapple, which I purchased separately for $10 each. There are multi-packs available, as well as recipes online to make your own for much cheaper.

Shaved Ice Machine Review

Upon unboxing, I was greeted with neatly organized packaging that housed the five components of the ice maker: instructions (which seemed simple enough), a couple of molds, the ice crusher, the motor, and the base. The convenience factor was immediately evident, as assembly only required three pieces. To prepare, I filled the provided molds with water and set them aside to freeze.

The next day was all about testing. I cleaned off all the components, read over the instructions carefully, and allowed the frozen ice molds to sit at room temperature for about five to seven minutes as recommended.

Assembling the shaved ice maker was a breeze. I placed the frozen ice block with its dome side down into the crusher cup, put the motor on top, and got ready for the first test.

Despite the loud noise it produced, which was a bit surprising, the machine quickly transformed the ice block into fluffy shaved ice. I generously poured over my chosen flavors – blue raspberry and pineapple – resulting in a delectable frosty delight that took me back to my Hawaiian vacations.

In terms of serving size, one ice block produced a little more than one serving. Unfortunately, a second helping required a fresh block. So, if you’re planning to use this for a gathering, you might need to freeze a good number of ice blocks in advance.

Next, I decided to take it up a notch and recreate a beloved Hawaiian classic – a snow-capped shaved ice dessert. In this variant, I layered the bottom of my bowl with ice cream, topped it off with more shaved ice and syrup, and crowned it all with sweetened condensed milk. The result was a symphony of flavors that truly elevated the experience.

Curiosity led me to another test: how would regular ice cubes fare in this machine? While the result was still satisfactory, it leaned more towards the consistency of a snow cone, not quite matching the fluffiness achieved with the ice blocks. But it could serve as a good substitute in a pinch.

In the end, I would definitely recommend this shaved if you’ve been in the market for a good summertime treat maker. It’s quick, easy to assemble, and replicates the fluffy shaved ice I’ve always enjoyed. The only drawbacks are the noise level and the relatively small serving size per ice block. However, the delicious end product more than compensates for these minor hiccups. If you’re a fan of shaved ice and have been looking for a way to enjoy it at home, this Amazon product is certainly worth considering.

If you’ve tried this product or something similar, I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. I’ll be back with more product reviews soon, so stay tuned and stay cool this summer!
