Where to Purchase

Below are links to the products covered in this review.

AAA to AA Battery Adapter

Convenience in a Pinch

The first item on the list is a AAA to AA battery adapter. I bought an eight-pack for $6.98, hoping it would be a good solution for those times when I have plenty of AAA batteries but am always out of AAs. The adapter is a simple plastic casing that fits over a AAA battery, converting it into the size of a AA.

Performance Test

I tested this adapter with my trusty Atomic Beam Lantern, which I’ve had since 2016. After inserting the AAA batteries into the adapters and loading them into the lantern, it worked perfectly. The light came on without any issues, and even after shaking it around to test stability, the batteries stayed in place. The setup also worked with my Zoom H1 audio recorder, so it seems versatile enough for a range of devices.

The Catch

While these adapters do work as advertised, they come with a caveat: AAA batteries don’t hold as much charge as AAs, even though they offer the same voltage. So, while these adapters are handy in a pinch, they’re not a permanent solution if you use AA devices frequently. For me, they’re a backup to keep in my “battery drawer” for emergencies.

Snack and Drink Cup Holder

Innovative Yet Awkward

Next up is the snack and drink cup holder. This combo cup includes a snack tray on top and a straw, and it claims to be ideal for on-the-go snacking and drinking. Assembly was more challenging than expected, with a handle that needed to snap into place rather than screw on and a straw that wasn’t clearly designed.

Real-World Test

I decided to put it to the ultimate test by hitting the drive-thru for some fries and nuggets. Surprisingly, the entire medium fry and a 10-piece nugget fit in the snack tray, and the drink cup fit into my car’s cup holder. While that was impressive, it was less convenient to use with pre-filled cups since a McDonald’s small cup got wedged in the holder, making it difficult to remove. Plus, any crumbs from the snack tray can fall through a notch and land in your drink.

Final Thoughts

After using it, I see potential in the design, though it’s definitely quirky. If you’re someone who loves having a snack and drink in one hand, you may find it useful despite some of the oddities. However, for most people, it may be a novelty rather than a necessity.

Phone Wristband Holder

Hands-Free Access, But at a Cost

The third item is a phone wristband holder designed for hands-free phone use during activities like running or cycling. This device promises a 360-degree rotation so you can quickly access apps or change songs without fishing your phone out of a pocket.

Out on a Walk

Strapping it on was a bit cumbersome, but once on, it held my phone securely. During a walk, I noticed it felt quite heavy on one wrist—like a wrist weight—and caused some discomfort after a while. Using it with wired headphones was awkward, as the wire tethered my wrist to my ears, which didn’t feel natural. And if you like swiping from the top of your screen or using the camera, the straps can block access, making those features harder to use.

The Verdict

The wristband did its job, but it wasn’t quite the convenience I hoped for. I’d rather keep my phone in my pocket and pull it out as needed rather than bear the weight on one wrist. It may suit someone who wants easy access to their phone while exercising, but for everyday use, it might be overkill.

Simplehuman Paper Towel Holder with Spray Pump

Sleek and Functional Design

The last item, and also the priciest, is the Simplehuman paper towel holder with an integrated spray pump. At $70, I was hoping for something both durable and practical. The device features a tension arm that allows for easy one-handed tearing and includes a spray pump you can fill with a cleaning solution.

Cleaning Test

Setting it up was straightforward, and the spray pump worked well, dispersing a nice, even mist. I tackled an outdoor table, which hadn’t been cleaned in a while, and the paper towel holder’s tension arm held steady as I tore sheets with one hand. Indoors, I used it on kitchen surfaces, and the combination of paper towels and spray was incredibly convenient for cleaning up minor messes without reaching for a separate spray bottle.

Final Thoughts

This paper towel holder exceeded my expectations and proved to be both practical and well-made. If you’re willing to invest in a higher-end kitchen accessory, this one is a solid choice. The integrated spray pump makes quick clean-ups a breeze, and the overall construction feels like it will last a long time.

Conclusion: Are These Gadgets Worth It?

After testing each of these items, here’s my final takeaway:

  • AAA to AA Battery Adapter: Handy in emergencies but not a long-term substitute for AAs.
  • Snack and Drink Cup Holder: Fun and somewhat practical, but likely more of a novelty.
  • Phone Wristband Holder: Works, but only if you’re comfortable with the weight and don’t mind occasional awkwardness.
  • Simplehuman Paper Towel Holder with Spray Pump: The clear winner here; a solid, practical choice for everyday cleaning.

Each of these gadgets has a place, whether it’s solving an occasional inconvenience or offering a unique way to snack on the go. If you’re looking for something quirky or functional, these finds might be just what you need. And if you’ve used any of the products in this review, tell me your thoughts in the comments below.
