Welcome back to another food review! Today, we’re diving into two brand-new treats on the scene: the Subway Footlong Oreo Cookie and the Dr Pepper Blackberry in both regular and zero sugar versions. Plus, just for fun, I’m testing regular Dr Pepper with actual blackberries to see how it stacks up against the new flavor. Let’s get into it!
Subway Footlong Oreo Cookie: A Massive Brownie in Disguise?
First up, let’s talk about Subway’s latest dessert, a 1,200-calorie footlong cookie. This isn’t Subway’s first attempt at a giant cookie, but Oreo branding gives it a buzzworthy twist. According to Subway, the cookie starts with their decadent chocolate cookie dough and is loaded with Oreo pieces, topped with sweet vanilla cream, and finished with even more Oreo crumbles.
Sounds promising, right? Well, let’s see how it actually holds up.
First Impressions:
- Fresh from Subway, the cookie was still warm.
- Visually, it’s appealing—dark, rich, and topped with a nice sprinkle of Oreo pieces.
- Smells fantastic—hard to go wrong with chocolate and Oreos!
Taste Test:
- First bite: No Oreo.
- Second bite: Still no Oreo.
- Third bite: Finally, an Oreo piece!
After several bites, it became clear that most of the Oreo presence is just on top, and not mixed throughout (It could have been – I just didn’t taste it). This makes it feel more like a chocolate brownie with Oreo garnish rather than an actual Oreo cookie experience. I even took a piece of the cookie and placed it on a real Oreo to compare, and yeah—Subway’s version isn’t hitting the same way.
Final Verdict:
✔️ Taste-wise, it’s solid. If you like chocolate, you’ll enjoy it.
❌ Oreo factor? Not quite there. It’s more of a chocolate brownie than an Oreo cookie.
❌ Price? At $6 before tax ($6.50 total), it seems steep for what you get (and my local Subway had a sign saying they were $5, so I don’t know what happened there).
If you’re an Oreo purist, this might not deliver the full experience you’re looking for. But if you just want a big, rich chocolate dessert, you’ll probably enjoy it.
Dr Pepper Blackberry: Does It Actually Taste Like Blackberry?
Next up, we have Dr Pepper Blackberry, available in both regular and zero sugar. I also decided to take this review a step further and compare them with real blackberries to see how accurate the flavor really is.
First Impressions:
- Smells like classic Dr Pepper with a hint of berry.
- Visually, it looks just like regular Dr Pepper with no special color tint.
Taste Test:
- Regular Dr Pepper Blackberry: Has a sweet berry flavor, but it’s borderline grape soda-ish.
- Zero Sugar Dr Pepper Blackberry: The blackberry flavor stands out more, possibly due to the artificial sweetener interaction. But oddly enough, it still gives me grape soda vibes.
Now, time for a fun experiment: combining real blackberries with regular Dr Pepper:
- When chewing blackberries while drinking regular Dr Pepper, it doesn’t match at all.
- Mixing actual blackberries with Dr Pepper Blackberry? Still not the same flavor.
Checking the ingredients, I wasn’t surprised to find no mention of actual blackberry—just natural and artificial flavors. No wonder it doesn’t taste quite like real blackberries.
Final Verdict:
✔️ Interesting to try once, but I don’t see this flavor sticking around long-term.
✔️ If you like berry sodas (or grape soda), you might enjoy it.
❌ Not an improvement over classic Dr Pepper. The flavor feels more like a generic berry soda rather than a distinctive blackberry twist.
I’d personally rank Dr Pepper’s Strawberries & Cream as a much better limited-edition flavor. This one? It’s fine, but not a must-have.
Final Thoughts
Both the Subway Footlong Oreo Cookie and Dr Pepper Blackberry are fun, limited-time novelties, but neither truly blew me away.
🏆 Best Flavor of the Day? The Subway cookie, even if it’s really a chocolate brownie in disguise.
🏆 Most Surprising? The zero sugar Dr Pepper Blackberry had a stronger berry flavor than the regular version.
🏆 Biggest Miss? Dr Pepper Blackberry’s lack of real blackberry taste, as it leans way too much toward grape soda vibes.
