Vac Mat Review
Perhaps the most obvious question when evaluating a product called “Vac Mat” is if this is a electronic mat that has some sort of vacuum function. The answer is no – it doesn’t actually vacuum the bottom of your shoes while you enter the room. So why the use of the word “vac” in the name?
Vac Mat (sometimes written as one word “Vacmat”) includes “vacuum action” which is said to be attributed to its special surface. “The unique polymer surface acts like millions of suction cups that grips debris,” the website claims. Thus, the vacuum action is more like a suction cup – or vacuum-like action – than an upright Hoover.
In short, it’s a superior material than is found on inexpensive door mats, and will almost surely work better than cheap mats found at stores such as Walmart. And, while the advertising is impressive, you shouldn’t expect miracles, because shoes – and the kinds of dirt they track in – can vary wildly.
If your expectations are realistic, you’ll probably find that Vac Mat is superior to inexpensive entry mats found at Walmart for under $10. We don’t think it would be wise to test it to the extreme as shown in the television commercial, which includes walking onto a white rug with dirty shoes immediately after stepping on Vac Mat. That would certainly be an extreme example that would not likely be duplicated in the real world.
Overall, however, it’s not a bad mat for what it is. Hopefully it becomes available in stores so that shipping costs and delays can be avoided.
Alternatives
A particularly popular alternative is the indoor/outdoor washable doormat by Alpine Neighbor, which sells for about $23. It may pay to shop around.
