Where to Purchase

You can pick up Yummy Can Bacon from Amazon for around $23. As of this November 2024 update, it has a mediocre 3.7-star rating among about 900 reviews.

Unboxing and First Impressions

The Yummy Can Bacon Cooker arrived with straightforward packaging and a handy instruction booklet. It boasts a design reminiscent of the older Wow Bacon Cooker, featuring a rack with eight slots to drape your bacon and a grease trap below. The premise is simple: load it, microwave, and enjoy.

Setup was easy, and the included cooking chart recommended 7–9 minutes for a standard 1,000-watt microwave. I started with Oscar Mayer center-cut bacon and quickly realized that spacing the strips without overlap was a bit of a challenge. Fully loaded, it resembled a bacon Christmas tree, which was oddly festive.

Cooking Bacon: First Attempt

For my first batch, I set the microwave timer for 7 minutes and waited. The cooker is designed to reduce splatter, and it did just that. Once the microwave beeped, I let it cool for the recommended 2 minutes before carefully removing the hot cooker.

The results? Crispy, evenly cooked bacon with a noticeable downside—a faint plastic smell. While the bacon tasted fine, the odor was a little off-putting. As for the grease trap, it collected an impressive amount of grease, which would have otherwise coated my microwave.

The Cleaning Struggle

Cleaning the Yummy Can Bacon Cooker was another story. The slots where the bacon rests are narrow, making it challenging to remove stuck-on grease by hand. A sponge and brush only got me so far. However, I decided to reserve judgment until I could run it through the dishwasher, which the instructions claimed was a viable option.

Turkey Bacon Trial

Next, I tested turkey bacon—a slightly thicker and non-pork alternative. I adjusted the cook time to 6 minutes for four slices, given its larger size.

The turkey bacon cooked reasonably well, although not as evenly as the regular bacon. Some parts crisped nicely, while others remained a bit underdone. Still, the result was tasty and much healthier, with almost no grease left in the tray.

One persistent issue was the way the bacon folded while cooking. It didn’t affect the flavor, but if you prefer aesthetically flat strips, this might not be the tool for you.

Dishwasher Test

Finally, the dishwasher test. I was curious to see if it would clean the stubborn grease better than I could by hand. After a full cycle, I was pleasantly surprised—every component came out spotless and looking good as new. While cleaning by hand remains a hassle, the dishwasher compatibility is a major win.

Final Thoughts

The Yummy Can Bacon Cooker delivers on its promise of mess-free, crispy bacon with some caveats.

Pros:

  • Reduces splatter in the microwave
  • Collects grease efficiently
  • Dishwasher-safe for thorough cleaning

Cons:

  • Plastic smell during cooking (though it doesn’t seem to affect taste)
  • Difficult to clean manually
  • Bacon tends to fold while cooking

At its current price point, the Yummy Can Bacon Cooker might not replace traditional stovetop or oven methods for everyone. However, if you’re looking for convenience and have a dishwasher, it’s worth considering.
