About DreamTents
DreamTents are durable pop-up tents that allow your child to have an attractive tent over his or her bed. The product website is mydreamtents.com, which was registered in September 2016. The screen shot below shows how the product website appeared in December 2016 and February 2017.
Claims & Features
- Pops open easily
- Fastens to bed in seconds
- Personal reading light included
- Promotes restful sleep, alleviates fear of darkness
- Compact folding design
- Works on twin beds, including bunk beds
- 8 different designs
Cost
DreamTents cost $19.95 + $7.95 P&H. I think it’s worth noting that the price for DreamTents has changed at least twice that I’ve seen. In December 2016, it was $19.95, then it went up to $39.95, then back down to $19.95.
Despite being listed as “Not Available in Stores,” I found DreamTents at a local As Seen on TV Store here in Las Vegas for $20. They only had one model available, the outer space design.
DreamTents Review
I first saw Dream Tents (stylized as one word: “DreamTents”) briefly appear in late 2016, only to discover a disclaimer on the website that said the product was in demand and wouldn’t be back until 2017. Now the item is back with a renewed advertising campaign for 2017 – along with a new price.
DreamTents are described as pop-up tents for use on a child’s twin bed. When unfurled, they resemble a rounded rectangle with a cloth curtain on one side. Two oval-shaped sides are attached to each side of a twin bed via soft plastic hooks that are placed underneath the mattress. Once the tent is in place, the child can sit or lay underneath it. There are “curtains” that can be tied up or allowed to hang for privacy. A small pocket is also included for storage of a few smaller items.
You can choose among 8 different designs: Space Adventure, Winter Wonderland, Fairytale Forest, Undersea World, Magical Princess, Sports World, Dinosaur Island, and Unicorn Fantasy.
The advertising may give the impression to some viewers that these tents are lighted, which they are not. The opening sequence of the commercial shows kids marveling at the illuminated patterns on the translucent material, but this is only achieved by placing lights outside of the tents, such as a lamp on either side.
My first impression is that this will probably go over well with kids, especially if expectations are realistic. It may not be possible to easily recreate the beautiful illuminated tent as shown in the ads, and I don’t know if they explained how such a tent could ease a child’s fear of the dark. That said, kids love tents, and this offers an easy and mostly foolproof way for children to set up and take down tents in their own rooms quite easily. I believe older kids will be able to assemble and dissassemble DreamTents by themselves, but smaller children will probably need some help, primarily because it is about 7 feet long.
I found that it gets a bit warm inside DreamTents, as it would with any tent. Kids don’t seem to mind the stuffiness, however, because they love tents.
The packaging in the store noted that there is a reading light, but it’s a mail-in offer that requires you to pay $5 shipping.
One potential drawback is using it on a bed next to a wall, as that requires the bed to be moved away from the wall first. Also, I was asked how it works on a full sized bed, so I’ve included a photo of that below (it doesn’t work very well).
DreamTents only work with twin beds, and I don’t think there would be any practical way to use it anywhere but with a bed. My guess is that they will offer additional sizes if this sells well.
Alternatives
There are other bed tents for children on the market such as this model which appears to have solid consumer reviews over a long period of time.

Updated July 2017.
It has been 8 weeks since I placed my order and they are still telling me it will be another 3-6 weeks, but there is no guarantee. Horrible, my kid asks about it 3 times/week and he won’t let me cancel it as I’d like to do just out of principle.
I ordered mine 7 weeks ago for my daughter for her birthday and just got off the phone with customer service. They are still “back ordered” and they have no information as to when they will be available. Fortunately, I haven’t told my daughter so she doesn’t ask about it. I want to cancel but am now just curious as to how long it will actually take, if at all…
Hi Katie, did you ever receive your order? If so, how long ago, and how long after purchasing? Thanks!
Wal-mart carries them for $20.00. Bought the space one for my grandson today.
Hey Janet, does Walmart carry all the styles?
They had five of them, Space Adventure, Winter Wonderland, Fairytale Forest, Undersea World, Magical Princess
Darn! I went to Wal-Mart today and they didn’t have any..Thanks Janet
I’ve seen them at Fry’s and Walgreens in just the past week, if that helps.
Thanks so much!!
Hi Rachel,
Yes, I did. About 15 weeks after I ordered! BUT…my daughter loves it so I guess worth the wait.
Did you ever receive your order? If so, how long ago, and how long after purchasing? Thanks!
Wal-Mart carries them for $20.00
I want everyone to know these tents are false advertising at its finest the tent it’s self is $20 no big deal. Well first off it does not include the reading light that’s an additional $9.99. Also to make it glow you must purchase their glow in the dark stickers another $9.99 plus the $4.99 shipping and handling congratulations parents you have just bought a dinky $45 DREAM TENT!!! Email customer service no apology nothing just some standard take it back.
Wow what a rip off. It’s ridiculous, they should be legally obligated to give the customer exactly what they advertise!
I should have read this first. But since I didn’t, does that mean my grandson’s birthday present is going to be 15 weeks late?
I ordered one for my grand daughters birthday and it went to fed ex but it’s been 11 days and still no label created so I called again to customer service and she said oh sometimes this happens but let me reorder you more. So here we go again. Birthday is over and had to purchase something else for her. Very sad this happens. Money down the drain. Will not purchase these again
CAUTION: The Ontel Products company who makes Dream Tent has informed me that this tent is NOT flame-resistant.
As James White says, the tent is not self-illuminated. You must order their reading light separately for $5 shipping. If a consumer skipped ordering their lamp and tried using the child’s own reading lamp already in place, there is no guarantee that their lamp will be shielded, and if it touched the tent, no guarantee that the tent would not burst into flames. I consider tis situation UNSAFE.
on the other hand, it is much better for your health if a fabric does not contain flame retardants. They are toxic chemicals and it is best for children to stay away from them.
Clips to hold it to the bed do not work well! Bought it at Walmart for $19.99 and am tempted to return it. Waste of money! There has to be better ones on the market!
I need one for a Queen size bed. We dont even have a twin bed in the house. If they start to sell different sizes I believe they we have a lot more business!
Deceptive. I ordered three for triplets, got one in the order, paid shipping for one. Now I have to go back and order two more, paying more shipping!!!
There’s no customer service no. or phone no. to call for dissatisfaction
.
I bought this to give to my great niece for Christmas. I was excited about it. Was. I am now going to return it. So deceptive. I bought my son one of those dream lights stuffed animals and I thought this tent was the same idea. I should learn to read reviews before I buy things. Now, the week before Christmas, I have to find her something else.
We got two of these from Wal-Mart. Commercial and packaging BOTH said reading light included but when you open the tent there is no light, only a “mail in offer” for a “free” light BUT get this… You have to pay 4.99 for S&H and if you have multuple tents its a separate fee! Absolutely bogus advertising on that part. Both kids upset because there is no light and I’m not paying 10 bucks for aomething that was advertised as included! Other than that the tents fit on their twin sized bunk beds fairly well, we opted out of using… Read more »
Hi Dollar Tree has clip on reading lights.
Thanks I’ll check our local one as soon as I can.
FRAUD—-Never received– Never was going to receive. Ordered 12/11/2017 today is 12/26/2017, was just told several ways they (DreamTents) would have to send MY MONEY BACK to ME. My grandson’s theme present did NOT arrive. Was told by Mary a check would be mailed 6-8 weeks from today. NOT ACCEPTABLE, PAID with MasterCard and demand my money back as fast as they received it. Informed Mary (DreamTents), this is fraud and would be reported as FRAUD. To New Jersey’s police department/BBB/Chamber of Commerce. She chuckled.
Don’t bother ordering one. I ordered one of these on December 9th. A shipping label was created on December 12th (and the money was taken out of my account, of course). Here we are on December 26th and the tracking info still says it hasn’t even shipped. I emailed customer service (nobody answers when you call the 800 number) and they have offered to send another tent or a refund. I’ve asked for a refund. So incredibly angry. This was supposed to be part of a Christmas gift. Walmart and Target don’t carry most of the models. They have the… Read more »
